Breastfeeding Education & Support
- Educates pregnant women about the benefits of breastfeeding to both mother and child
- Assist new moms with strategies to enable comfortable continued breastfeeding

Lead Poisoning Prevention
- Educational messaging educates both children and parents about the dangers of lead and shares strategies
Teen Pregnancy Prevention (NJ PREP)
- Supplements health education in schools by providing information and role plays about healthy relationships
Nurse Family Partnership
- Brings nurses to the homes of first-timers moms from the time of pregnancy until the child’s second birthday. Nurses teach clients about well woman care, prenatal care, child development, and family stability.
Parents as Teachers
- Teaches new moms and families how to stimulate their babies and educate their toddlers. Our trained child-focused staff conduct these trainings in our clients’ homes.
Perinatal Addictions Prevention Project
- Provides education and support to women who use alcohol, tobacco, opioids, or other addictive substances during pregnancy. The program works to reduce stigma of recovery and provides healthcare professionals with education and resources.
Perinatal Mood Disorder
- Provide women at risk of perinatal mood disorders with individual guidance over the phone on a “warm line” as well as support groups. It recognizes that men can also suffer from this condition.
Quality Improvement
- Collects and analyzes birth certificate data to identify opportunities to improves safety and quality

Iris Houses mission is to include other health disparities impacting our neighborhoods including diabetes, obesity, hypertension and Hepatitis C, and now engages in comprehensive care coordination for battle a combination of chronic conditions.
Assessments
Behavioral Health Team provides annual assessments to clients enrolled in Scatter Site Housing Program in the form of biopsychosocial reviews. Assessment of client’s emotional state and create a daily baseline for case managers and social workers to build on, develop treatment plans and help with referrals to external agencies.
Counseling and Crisis Intervention
Provides non-therapeutic counseling to clients on both an as needed and scheduled basis.
Provides an ongoing and one-time service to women and men enrolled in regular programs, and heave team member who serves as crisis counselors in times of extreme emergencies.
Emotional Wellness/Group Activities
Behavioral Health Department manages the activities of ongoing weekly emotional wellness groups for women, including the Sister to Sister Program for HIV+ woman on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Psychological and Educational Workshops
Department provides regular psychoeducational workshops to groups and the general public.
Clinical Support
Team provides clinical support and in-house consultation to the front-line case management staff at Iris House, helping to create flags and catch them before clients slip into emotional distress.

Services:
1. 24hr Domestic Violence Hotline: for crisis counseling and resource and referral information. The Hotline is the main point of entry for all our programs and is answered by bilingual (English-Spanish) Advocates. Calls may be made anonymously and are completely confidential.
- If you are a victim of domestic violence in need of emergency shelter, or other services such as counseling, you may call the Hotline for more information and/or a shelter assessment.
- If you suspect you are being abused but are not sure, we can provide information about the dynamics of domestic violence. If you are a victim of domestic violence, the Hotline can provide safety planning information, resources, and referrals to needed services.
2. Emergency Shelter: The YWCA Union County’s Emergency Shelter Program provides a safe, comfortable environment for women and children in need of immediate safety. The shelter is in an undisclosed location, and staff 24/7 by caring and compassionate Shelter Advocates.
- Women and their children can stay for up to 90 days.
- The Emergency Shelter program provides food, shelter, counseling and case management, support groups, safety planning, and connects clients with resources in the community. Shelter Advocates provide assistance with seeking employment or education, financial and legal needs, applying for documentation papers, and housing search assistance. In addition, the program offers services for children including trauma-informed play and other activities. Services are provided in English and Spanish, with an emphasis on cultural competency.

3. Transitional and Supportive Housing: Transitional and Supportive Housing provides long-term housing, up to two years. Transitional Housing is provided for women with no children, and Supportive Housing if for women with children.
- These programs are designed to allow women additional time to build self-sufficiency and independence.
4. Counseling and Case Management: Individual and Group Counseling services respond to the unique and individual needs of domestic violence survivors and are provided free of charge.
- Individual counseling provides a safe space for women to begin to talk about and work through the trauma of domestic violence.All services provide Safety Planning and child care is available.

5. Skills Training and Employment Program (STEP): STEP is a workforce development program designed specifically for victims of domestic violence. The goal of the STEP Program is addressing the unique issues o such as safety, financial abuse, asset protection, and self-sufficiency. The program provides support in the areas of skills development and employment support.
- STEP provides these services through individual supportive coaching, workshops in the areas of financial management and other career planning topics, and the STEP computer lab.
- This mobile computer lab provides participants access to online employment resources, resume and cover letter creation, and training in using computer programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

6. Court Advocacy: The YWCA Union County’s Court Advocacy Program assists victims understand their legal rights and obtain all the protection available to them, including Temporary and Final Restraining Orders.
- Court Advocates educate victims on dynamics of abuse, their legal options, provide advocacy, safety planning, resources and referrals to appropriate services.
- The program also offers court preparation and accompaniment. Services are provided in English and Spanish.

7. Crisis Response Teams (CRT): Volunteers provide emergency response to victims at the time of an arrest.
- On call 24 hours a day, volunteers provide victims in crisis with support and information with the goal of helping victims to make informed decisions and access needed services such as shelter, counseling and court advocacy.

8. Domestic Violence Liaison: YWCA Union County provides a Liaison between our agency and Union County Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) offices to provide support and advocacy to their clients who are victims of domestic violence.
- The goal is to assist DCP&P workers with domestic violence assessments to identify abuse, intervention for victims of domestic violence and their children, and to offer guidance about steps needed for their protection.
9.PALS( Peace: A learning Solution): The YWCA Union County PALS (Peace: A Learned Solution) Program offers creative arts therapy and counseling for children (ages 3-17) who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes.
