Fostering healthy & drug-free communities by bringing the community together.
Preventing substance use and misuse at the community level is possible only with the support and collaboration of concerned citizens across a variety of sectors.
Since 1997, Prevention Links has convened the Health and Wellness Coalition of Union County (HAWC), which utilizes the strategic prevention framework, a five-step process developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to prevent substance misuse in our community. This process is data-driven and focus on population-level change and prevention efforts for people of all ages.
HAWC focuses on the following areas of priority which are reported to have the largest impact on Union County residents:
- Underage drinking
- New and emerging drugs
- Marijuana
- Opioids
